(not so) mystery smell

I know it's been a while, but I needed a break... not from writing, but from working, so this is why it's been so long...

So I'm sitting here, doing my work, MMOB, and every so often I smell the unmistakable stench of babypoopydiaper. Not overpowering, but very distinct.

When I'm finally convinced that it really is babypoopydiaper and not my imagination, I decide to investigate where it might be ... which is usually easy... typically the stench bomb is sitting on the changing station which is directly on the other side of the open door to Jacob's room, across the hall from my open office door.

In addition to the indoor air currents caused by our central HVAC, Jacob has a low-speed air circulator/heater in his room that really does help heat it, but, perhaps more importantly, provides him with a low level of white noice which we're convinced helps him nap. The fan is often pointing straight towards the door from the back of the room which, naturally, pushes babypoopydiaper smells out of his room and into everywhere else.

So I look around the changing station, on the floor, behind the door... nothing. Just to make sure, I close the door to his room and I return to work.

The smell persists.

So I look around the waste basket and other places.

Nothing.

Again, I'm not always smelling the stench.

Sniff...

So I smell myself... my T-shirt... my shorts, in case he pooped while sitting in my lap and left me with a trace present.
Nope... I smell... but not of babypoopydiaper.

So now I'm determined.

After several minutes I find the stink bomb sitting about 2 - 2.5 feet from my nose, at about my 4 O'Clock position to my head behind a box. My angle would have prevented me from seeing it in most of my searches. Jeanne had come in with Jacob and must've gotten distracted and left it there instead of taking it to the trash outside.

Thankfully, there was a handful of packing pillows in the trash which, when puncured, make a convenient non-porous baggy. I wrapped up the offending paperweight and dropped it in the trash.

Not as funny in conclusion as along the way... but enough for a much-needed diversion.

Pretty pathetic, eh?
